Lecture on Modern Arab Women

Lecture on Modern Arab Women

Dr. Rafika Merini, a specialist in the study of Francophone literature written by North African Arab women, will present a lecture on "The Modern Multicultural Arab Woman: Real and Imagined," at Fairfield University, on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 8:00 p.m. in Canisius Hall, Room 10. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Dr. Marie-Agnés Sourieau, assistant professor of modern languages and literatures, and Dr. Ralph M. Coury, professor or history, who have arranged the lecture, said it will provide a healthy antidote to gross misrepresentations in the West of the lives of Arab women.

Dr. Merini received her doctorate in comparative literature at Binghamton University (SUNY). She is an associate professor of French at the State University College at Buffalo where she coordinated the Women's Studies Disciplinary Unit for six years. She is the author of numerous works, including the recent "Two Major Francophone Women Writers, Assia Djebar and Leila Sebbar: A Thematic Study of their Works."
