"Touch and Live" a Broadway-style musical staged at Fairfield University

Image: Christ "Touch and Live," a contemporary Broadway-style musical which celebrates the life of Christ from birth to the Resurrection, will be staged in Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29.

Stories from the Bible will come alive as the major characters of the Old and New Testament are portrayed by a cast of 100 adults and children in full costume, accompanied by an eight-piece orchestra. The actors will perform scenes from Our Lord's life including the wedding feast at Cana, the Last Supper and a dramatic crucifixion and resurrection depiction.

The production was written, composed, produced and directed by Don Brelsford, a Fairfield University graduate and director of liturgical music at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Fairfield. He is also the author of many sacred music pieces, including: "With Our Hearts as One," for the millennium minute; "Let Our Candles Shine," for the holiday memorial tree lighting ceremony for United Home Care; and "Follow Me," a religious musical about the life of Christ.

Brelsford's formal music training exposed him to both contemporary and classical styles, opera, and Christian as well as Jewish liturgical music. He is a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. He is married to Debbie Mollica, also a Fairfield University graduate, who serves as associate producer of "Touch and Live." They have three children.

"Touch and Live," a proclamation of the Gospel, celebrates scripture, spirit and God's love for his children from the beginning of time through today. New music to be premiered at this production includes: "Gloria in Excelsis Deo," "I Am the New Wine," "Your Will Be Done" and "Kyrie Eleison."

The musical appeals to all ages and is a wonderful way to celebrate the Easter season and the Jubilee Year.

Performances are Friday, April 28 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, April 29 at 2 and 8 p.m. The event is sponsored in part by the Fairfield University Alumni Association. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased by calling the Quick Center Box Office at (203) 254-4010 or toll-free at 1-877-ARTS-396.
