Poet Margaret Lloyd at Fairfield University

Margaret Lloyd, who won the Alice James Brooks Award for her collection of poems, "This Particular Earthly Scene," will read selections of her poetry at Fairfield University in the School of Nursing Auditorium on Tuesday, March 21, at 7 p.m.

A native of Wales, Ms. Lloyd's work has appeared in many journals, including "Poetry East," "The Literary Review," "The New England Review," "The Minnesota Review," "Passages North," and "The Gettysburg Review." She is the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and was awarded a fellowship in poetry at the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference.

Ms. Lloyd chairs the Humanities Department at Springfield College where she teaches poetry, women in literature and Celtic literature. The reading is sponsored by the English Department at Fairfield University. Dr. Michael White, assistant professor of English, said Ms. Lloyd "writes as well and as powerfully as any poet I know of what it means to be a woman. Her poetry is complex and rich, yet immediately accessible."

Admission is free. A book-signing and reception will follow the reading.
