Students entering grades 7 through 12 will have the opportunity to explore the world of astronomy and to build crucial science and math skills this summer at a new camp offered by Fairfield University from Monday, July 10, through Friday, July 21. Students will learn about the stars and planets, about the universe, Big Bang and black holes. Using NASA materials, Internet resources, scientific investigations and lab experiments, students will work with professionals and educators in the rich academic setting of a University environment.

More than just a fun time, this program incorporates the principles of the National Science Education Standards and will prepare students for high school and advanced courses in the sciences as well as for the CAPT exam.

The program is directed by David Heiden, a physics and astronomy teacher at Fairfield High School who also teaches astronomy as an adjunct professor at Fairfield University. Before becoming a teacher, Mr. Heiden was an assistant at the University of Wyoming Infrared Observatory, a lab technician at Yale University and a scientific data analyst in the defense program at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

Tuition for the program is $500 and includes all materials and Internet access.
