Fairfield University's Judaic Studies program presents Celluloid Soldiers

The Judaic Studies Program at Fairfield University presents author Michael Birdwell, Ph.D., who will discuss his book "Celluloid Soldiers: The Warner Brothers' Campaign Against Nazism 1934-41" on Wednesday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the School of Nursing Auditorium.

Ellen Umansky, Ph.D., director of a four-part program on Jewish issues, says "Warner Brothers was one of the few film producers at the time who had insight into Hitler's anti-Semitism and urged the United States to intervene in the war in Europe."

Birdwell, a history teacher at Tennessee Technological University, is also the archivist and curator of the papers of Sargeant Alvin M. York housed in Tennessee.

The lecture, sponsored by the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies and the Schnurmacher Foundations, is free and open to the public.

The two final events in the series are: April 9: Friends of Judaic Studies Donor Reception and, May 1: a Holocaust Remembrance Service featuring Hilda Scheraga, president of the Holocaust Child Survivors of Connecticut. For information call (203) 254-4000, ext. 2066.
