A dramatic reading of a new work, "The Prodigal," by playwright Daniel Magee will take place on Thursday, March 30 and Friday, March 31, at 8 p.m. in Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

Magee, a Belfast native now living in Westport, is the author of "Horseman Pass By," which was described by the Daily Telegraph as "the best play to come out of Ireland in years." His first American production, "Paddywack," was produced in New York and debuted at New Haven's Long Wharf Theatre in 1994.

The playwright says that in "The Prodigal" "you'll meet handsome villains, decent daddies, damsels in distress, charismatic gangsters, dastards, business men and the bottom line. You'll also witness broken legs and broken hearts - dreams and the dreary day-to-day."

The reading is directed by June Walker of Westport and features appearances by several members of the Theatre Artists Workshop of Westport where the play has been in development. The local actors include: Chilton Ryan of Wilton; Eileen Lawless of Norwalk; Tom Zingarelli of Bridgeport; Tess Link and John O'Hearn of Westport; Declan Mooney of Jersey City, N.J. and Herb Duncan of Rye, N.Y.
