Quick Center for the Arts presents Children's Summer Camp production of "Sleeping Beauty" | Press Releases

A king, a queen, fairies, palace attendants and the butterflies - all take the stage as the summer camp program at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts presents its first production of the summer season, "Sleeping Beauty," on Friday, July 7, and Friday, July 14, at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, July 8, and Saturday, July 15, at 11 a.m. This is the 11th anniversary of the Missoula Children's Theatre association with the camp program for children in grades 1-12.

An original adaptation of the classic fairy tale, this "Sleeping Beauty," awakens 500 years after her finger is pricked on a spindle to find herself in a Rock 'n Roll dream. Featuring the talents of 60 local youngsters who have been in workshops all week learning about drama, choreography, stage makeup and set design, the production was conceived and written by Don Kukla with music and lyrics by Kukla and Michael McGill.

The nation's preeminent professional children's theater company, Missoula Children's Theatre, is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Montana. It has been touring extensively throughout the country and abroad for 27 years, serving more than 300 communities each year. A variety of roles for children in grades 1-12 is provided in each production, and middle and high school students are encouraged to audition for leading roles. In addition to the production rehearsals, the Quick Center also conducts workshops in dance, arts and crafts and marketing the arts as part of the camp experience.

"Sleeping Beauty" promises a fun-filled event for the whole family. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children and seniors.
