Dr. Adolfo Roitman, curator of the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, will speak at a lecture sponsored by Fairfield University's Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at 7:30 p.m. in the University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. Roitman will discuss "Through the Tunnel of Time: Significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls for Judaism and Christianity."

Dr. Roitman was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and earned his master's and doctoral degrees in comparative religions at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He is only the second curator at the Shrine of the Book which houses Israel's collection of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bar Kokhba Cave of Letters materials.

Dr. Roitman has made significant contributions to the understanding of the Scrolls and is involved in their editing. His recent work includes articles on "The Building of the Shrine of the Book," a new catalog for the "Daily Life at Qumran" exhibit at the Shrine, and a book on the symbol of the serpent and the origins of evil. He is presently involved in creating a new look for the Shrine of the Book.

Dr. Roitman's lecture is free and open to the public, but reservations are suggested. Fairfield University's Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies is under the direction of Ellen M.
