Fairfield University announces six new trustees

Fairfield University has announced the election of six new members to its Board of Trustees. The group includes three alumni, two Jesuit educators and a former Major League Baseball Commissioner.

Francis T Vincent, Jr Francis T. Vincent, Jr., who served as Baseball Commissioner from 1989 to 1992, is a member of the Board of Directors of Time Warner, Inc. where he chairs the Nominating & Governance Committee and is a member of the Compensation Committee.

A graduate of Williams College and Yale Law School, Mr. Vincent early in his career served as an associate director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and was a partner in the Washington, D.C. law firm of Caplin & Drysdale, where he specialized in corporate banking and securities matters.

In 1978 he joined Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. as President and CEO. When Columbia was acquired by the Coca-Cola Company in 1982, Mr. Vincent was appointed Chairman and CEO of its Entertainment Business Sector and then in 1986, Executive Vice President.

A resident of Greenwich, Mr. Vincent heads Vincent Enterprises in Stamford.

Image: Joseph F. Berardino Joseph F. Berardino is a managing partner of North America Assurance & Business Advisory with Arthur Andersen LLP in New York. He joined Arthur Andersen & Co. following his graduation from Fairfield University in 1972 with a degree in accounting. He was promoted to audit manager in 1976 and admitted to partnership in 1982. A Greenwich resident, Mr. Berardino serves as a director of the Foreign Policy Association and the United Way of Greenwich. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the New York State Society of CPAs.

Carolyn M. Vermont-Fuller is a consultant with the City of Bridgeport Police Department, Community Services Division. Previously she was appointed by the Mayor of Bridgeport to coordinate the City's Youth Violence Prevention Program. She has served as a Loaned Executive for the United Way of Eastern Fairfield County and as Youth Coordinator for Regional Youth/Adult Substance Abuse Project.

Carolyn M. Vermont-Fuller A 1982 graduate of Fairfield University, Ms. Vermont-Fuller also earned a master's degree from Fairfield in 1984 and is completing course work for a doctoral degree in educational leadership at the University of Bridgeport.

A resident of Bridgeport, she is president-elect of the Center for Women & Families and a board member for the Cardinal Shehan Center. Her many awards include the Mayor's Youth Council Advisor Award, the Lighthouse Teen Program Caring Adult Award and the NAACP Emancipation Award.

Image: Paul J. Huston Paul J. Huston, a private equity investor, has been managing directory of Liberty Capital Partners, Inc. in New York since 1992. He joined Coopers & Lybrand in 1982, following his graduation from Fairfield University with a degree in accounting, and moved to Merrill Lynch Interfunding, Inc. as an investment banker in 1987. He earned an MBA in finance from Columbia University in 1991.

A resident of New York City, Mr. Huston serves as chairman of the board of North Sound Music Group and Polaris Pool Systems, Inc., and is a member of the board of Rath Manufacturing and Play Power, Inc.

J. Thomas McClain, S.J. J. Thomas McClain, S.J., has served as president of Regis High School in New York since 1996. A former principal of St. John's High School in Toledo, Ohio, in the 1980s, he was Provincial Assistant for Secondary Education for the Detroit Province of the Society of Jesus from 1990-96 and Treasurer of the Detroit province from 1992-96.

A graduate of the University of Detroit, Father McClain earned a bachelor's degree in German and French from the University of Detroit; a master of art's degree from the University of California at Berkeley in German literature; and a master of divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. He was ordained a priest in 1977.

Otto H. Hentz, S.J. Otto H. Hentz, S.J., is an associate professor of theology at Georgetown University. A graduate of Fordham University with a bachelor's degree in classics and a master's in philosophy, he also earned a bachelor of divinity degree from Woodstock College and master's and doctoral degrees in theology from the University of Chicago.

Father Hentz is a member of the College Theological Society and the Catholic Theological Society of America.
