Fairfield's MBA expanding its boundaries

Fairfield University's MBA program is on the move. In the fall the school began offering MBA courses in Greenwich in a classroom facility at the Home Care offices of Greenwich Hospital. Now spring courses will be available in Stamford at Gen Re in the Financial Centre building, right off of I-95 and in the heart of the Stamford business community.

And for students eager to move beyond the school's Connecticut boundaries, there are plenty of opportunities to study in other countries. Last January students spent 12 days studying the emerging Russian economy at the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration in Finland and the International Banking Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, where they visited Russian businesses, foreign multinationals, banks and the city government.

Other MBA students interested in Ireland's booming economy, studied at the University of Limerick and visited several multinational facilities there. Students have the option of applying to study at universities in England, Germany Ireland, Japan, The Netherlands, or Russia.

Dean Walter Ryba says such programs reflect the emphasis Fairfield puts on preparing students for management positions in multinational organizations. "The Fairfield MBA instills in students an awareness and understanding of the global marketplace. Most of our students are already working for companies that do business internationally and we have students from over 12 countries studying here, so together they provide a very rich exchange of ideas in the classroom."

Fairfield has just added a concentration in health care management to its MBA program. Other concentrations are available in accounting, finance, human resource management, information technology, international business, marketing, and taxation. Fairfield is one of only three Schools of Business in Connecticut with accreditation by AACSB International Association for Management Education, the most prestigious external evaluators of business schools.
