Fairfield Kiwanis Club supports Schools in Partnerships Series

The Fairfield Kiwanis Club has contributed $12,000 to the 1999-2000 Schools in Partnership Series through which the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University makes performances available to area children.

This year's schedule includes six shows: "Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile," for grades pre-K-4; "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," grades 2-5; "Babes in Toyland" for all grades; "The Lion King of Mali," grades K-5; "Ellis Island: Gateway to a Dream," grades 5 and up; and "Les Miserables," grades 3-9. The Quick Center awards "scholarships" to some 200 students per show to attend a performance. This typically consists of free or reduced rate tickets and in some cases assistance in providing transportation, depending on the needs of the specific school.

This year McKinley and Holland Hill Schools in Fairfield will benefit from this funding, along with some Bridgeport schools. In addition, 30 teachers will be invited to participate in workshops that complement the performances, providing educators with materials that can be used to prepare students for the theatre experience.

The Fairfield Kiwanis Club is one of 8,500 around the world with more than 315,000 members in 82 nations and geographic areas. The organization is devoted to service, the advancement of individual, community and national welfare, and the strengthening of international goodwill.
