Fairfield University has awarded Presidential Scholarships to 23 first-year students, selected to receive $7,000 for each of their four years of college. These scholarships, awarded on the basis of merit, were given to six students from Connecticut, five from New York, three from New Jersey, and one each from California, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. Thirteen of the students scored in the 1300s and three in the 1400s on the SAT college entrance exam, 18 were named to the National Honor Society at their high school, and seven served in student government, two as president. Twelve went to private or parochial high schools and 11 went to public school.

Six Scholars will study liberal arts and three have enrolled in the School of Business and will choose a major at a later date. Two will study biology; two chose psychology; two chose accounting; and the rest are majoring in chemistry, English, finance, history, international business, international studies, management and politics. Eleven participated in a varsity sport with track, cross-country, baseball and tennis as the most popular; five were captains.
