Fairfield Launches Alumni of Color Network to Connect BIPOC Alumni and Students

The Fairfield University Alumni of Color Network serves to create a community and gateway to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Stags during and after their time at Fairfield.

Fairfield’s Office of Alumni Relations partnered with alumni Matthew Waldemar ’20 and Kaadiana Barnes ’17 to launch the Alumni of Color Network as an official affiliate group. The goal of the network is to create a community and gateway to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Stags during and after their time at Fairfield.

"I joined the Alumni of Color Network to continue the work of creating spaces which support and uplift Fairfield's BIPOC students through a professional setting,” said Matthew Waldemar. “Joining this network means you're getting connected to great alumni and resources that Fairfield has fostered."

The Network will host a variety of educational, professional, and social programs that cultivate personal and professional connections and opportunities to support the University while demonstrating the strength and success that exists within the BIPOC community.

The goals of the Network are simple:

  • Advance volunteerism, pride, and philanthropy
  • Connect and network with other alumni, current students, and the University community
  • Build community through partnerships
  • Mentor students and alumni of color
  • Recruit alumni to join and actively participate in activities of the network

"I was inspired to join the Network because I felt there was a disconnect between BIPOC students and alumni,” Kaadiana Barnes explained. “The Fairfield University Alumni of Color Network will help bridge the gap and provide critical resources that unite and strengthen our BIPOC alumni and student communities."

Any alumnus or alumna interested in being a part of the Alumni of Color Network can complete the volunteer interest form. Learn more at the Alumni of Color webpage or email alumni@fairfield.edu.
