Off-Campus Living
Fairfield is a charming coastal town featuring beaches, marinas, parks, and plenty of shopping and fine dining all within 50 miles of New York City.
And when you’re a senior, you may have the opportunity to live on off-campus. It’s just one of many unforgettable ways Fairfield turns an education into an experience, and an experience into an education. We encourage students to wait until they are released from campus by the Office of Residence Life until they sign a rental lease.

Be Courteous
Consider your neighbors' lifestyles and recognize they will be different than yours. For example, if they have young children, quiet evenings will be very important to them.

Be Conscious
Be conscious of the proximity between your house and your neighbor’s house. Can they hear your conversation through your window?

Be Considerate
Be considerate when parking. Do not block your neighbor’s driveway or take their spot. Keep your guests’ cars only in your driveway.

Be Proactive
Alert your neighbor to parties. If you're planning a party, be sure to give your neighbors plenty of warning, letting them know when it's going to start and how long you expect it to last. Tell them to call you first if they are concerned with noise or your guests.

Be Tidy
Keep your yard clean. Pick up after yourself, guests, and pets. No one wants to live next to a messy neighbor. Put rubbish/garbage out on collection days.

Communicate
Communicate with your neighbor. Touch base with your neighbors regularly and keep them in the loop. The more they know about you, the less likely they will have problems with your residence.

Be Nice
Be nice! Offer neighbors help. You can shovel their drive way, rake their leaves. It will only pay off in the long run!

Fairfield University utilizes an emergency notification system provided by Blackboard Connect, locally referred to as StagAlert, as one method to notify and relay information to students, faculty, and staff in the event of a significant emergency. Town of Fairfield Emergency Notification System
Sign up for Fairfield's new emergency notification system to be notified by your local emergency response team in the event of emergency situations or critical community alerts. Visit the Town of Fairfield website for more information.
- Call 911 if you are in danger or if there is an emergency
- Lock your doors, even if you are away for a short time
- Be alert! Know your surroundings and be aware of who is in front of and behind you
- Walk on highly traveled streets, and at night travel only in well-lit areas
- Carry your keys in your hand to avoid fumbling with them
- Keep personal property out of sight; avoid carrying purses whenever possible
- Carry as little cash as possible
- Report all suspicious activities and crimes
- Don't leave drinks unattended or socialize with people you're not comfortable with
- Be careful sharing personal information on the internet
- Don’t take shortcuts through parking lots and woods if your are alone
- Report suspicious behavior (i.e. someone looking into windows or parked cars; vehicles driving slowly and aimlessly around)
- Don’t open your door to solicitors without properly issued licenses
