With the health and safety of our students and campus community in mind, the University has to decided to shift to a virtual orientation experience for the Class of 2024.

We're excited to take this opportunity to re-imagine orientation and connect with our newest Stags through a virtual version. The orientation experience will include:

  • Special virtual events for students and their families throughout the summer
  • Ongoing engagement via Zoom
  • An enhanced Fall Welcome program in August

We have a committed team developing plans to ensure that this experience will still allow for:

  • Community development among first-year students
  • Meaningful interactions with faculty, staff, and peer mentors
  • Information sharing about campus resources and curricular and co-curricular opportunities
  • Support to gain a head start on a successful, enjoyable college experience, making the transition to campus in August much easier.

First-Year Checklist

To ensure your successful transition to Fairfield, the student checklist has been created to help you keep track of all the forms and assignments you will need to complete throughout the summer.

Note: Only students who have confirmed their attendance by submitting their deposit to the Office of Admissions and claimed their NetID will be able to access the First-Year Student Checklist.

First-Year Guidebook

The guidebook is created to assist students during their first semesters at Fairfield. This book will serve as a 'go to' resource for everything Fairfield. It is packed with information regarding buildings on campus, academic planning, action items, office locations, and contact information.

Language Placement

All new students with academic or life experience in one of the following languages: Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, must take the Language Placement Exam, found on the online First-Year Student Checklist. Students planning to study a new language at Fairfield should still take the Language Placement Exam in the language that was studied in high school. This score must be on record if the student ultimately decides to stay with her/his previously-studied language.

Math Placement

Students will be advised on which initial math course is best for their experience and academic goals based off of the information they provide in their Academic Interests Questionnaire, found on the online First-Year Student Checklist. In general, it is recommended that students enroll in the highest numbered mathematics course for which their high school preparation allows.

Parent/Guardian Checklist

Parents/Guardians, your student has several action items to accomplish within their own online checklist system. However, there are specific action items that they may need your help with and/or for you to complete on your own. Please review the Parent/Guardian Checklist for more information.

International Students

All international students must attend International or Global Student Orientation. During this time, students will review immigration benefits and responsibilities, meet their student ambassadors, and participate in sessions relating to adjustment and life at Fairfield.
