The Health Center staff encourages students to notify parents/guardians of their medical emergency or hospital visit.  If a student is referred to the hospital by Student Health Center staff, he or she is offered a "Release of Health Information" form to sign to authorize disclosure of health information to parents/guardians.  There are situations where the Student Health Center staff will contact the parents/emergency contacts directly (without a signed release) including:

  • If the student is a minor (in accordance with State and Federal laws)
  • If the student is a danger to himself or others
  • If the student's condition is critical to life safety

Medical Amnesty: For information regarding medical amnesty for drug and/or alcohol related emergencies, please refer to the "Intoxicated Student Policy" section of the Student Handbook.
