Engineering Student Society

Society Overview

The Engineering Student Society (ESS) is the umbrella organization on campus for several student branches of professional engineering societies. ‌

In addition to the chartered branches of professional societies, ESS is chartered by the Fairfield University Student Association (FUSA).

ESS holds regular meetings, seminars, tours and workshops to provide a forum for advancing engineering knowledge and establishing collegial bonds among its student members. For updates visit the School of Engineering's Facebook page.

Engineers Without Borders

‌On March 15, 2015, Fairfield University opened a student chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB-USA)

Today, more than two billion people lack access to the most basic things, such as clean drinking water, adequate sanitation, reliable passage to local markets and more. Engineers Without Borders USA is engineering change in 39 countries around the world to change this reality -- one well at a time, one bridge at a time, one community at a time.

Mission: EWB-USA is a nonprofit humanitarian organization established to support community-driven development programs worldwide through partnerships that design and implement sustainable engineering projects, while creating transformative experiences that enrich global perspectives and create responsible leaders.

Vision: EWB-USA's vision is a world in which the communities we serve have the capacity to sustainably meet their basic human needs.

Membership in the EWB-USA Fairfield chapter is currently free and open to all active Fairfield students regardless of their area of study. 

The EWB-USA Fairfield University student chapter’s current program involves water and sanitation projects at the Universidad Academica Campesina, Carmen Pampa, Bolivia (UAC-CP) Fairfield University students have participated informally with students from EWB USA South Dakota State University student chapter for the past three years. Read about it here. Currently EWB-USA Fairfield students are designing a sand filter for the upper campus and getting ready for construction this summer at UAC-CP.

The EWB-USA Fairfield University student chapter has major corporate supporters: The AMB Foundation, Rotary International and The ASML Corporation from Wilton, CT. The chapter is actively seeking additional corporate sponsors. Contact Dr. Berdanier for more information.
