Student Tips for Attending a Career Fair

  • Check this page often to find out what companies are attending the Career Fair and research the companies you are interested in connecting with.
  • Develop a brief introduction (about 30 seconds) so you can introduce yourself to employers. Also, be prepared to share your current career objective.
  • Prepare some questions in advance about the organization that you can ask.
  • Make sure your resume is up to date and bring 15-20 copies to the Career Fair.
  • Dress professionally and bring a portfolio to carry your resume, notepaper, and a pen.
  • There will be programs available at the fair that will include a diagram of the floor layout. Get to the Fair early so you have time to review it.
  • There will be a LinkedIn photo booth so get a professional-looking photo taken at the Fair if you don’t currently have one.
  • Ask employers for their contact information so you can contact them after the Career Fair.
  • After each discussion with an employer, write down a few notes that you can use when you follow up with them.
  • Write a thank you note to employers who provided contact information and follow-up on any activities discussed.
  • Make an appointment with a counselor in the Academic & Career Development Center (ACDC) to develop a strategy for your career after Fairfield University.
