The Office of Accessibility

Welcome

In accordance with state and federal law, Fairfield University is committed to providing accommodations to students with disabilities in order to ensure equal access to its programs, services, and activities.

While Fairfield University does not have specialized or specific programs for students with disabilities, the Office of Accessibility does facilitate reasonable academic and campus life accommodations for students who disclose a disability and request accommodations through the Office of Accessibility.

Students with disabilities can begin the accommodation request process by completing the online intake form through the "Accessibility and Accommodations" portal on my.fairfield or by contacting the Office of Accessibility at ooa@fairfield.edu.

The Office of Accessibility is located in the Academic Commons on the main floor of the DiMenna-Nyselius Library and can be reached at ooa@fairfield.edu or via the phone at 203-254-4000 ext. 2615.

Current Students

The Office of Accessibility facilitates effective, reasonable classroom and campus life accommodations for all students on campus who disclose a disability, meet the eligibility criteria, and request accommodations. In order to request an accommodation through the Office of Accessibility, students must log into my.fairfield using their Net ID. Once logged onto my.fairfield, students can access the "Accessibility & Accommodations" task icon to complete the online process of requesting accommodations and submitting supporting documentation. Incoming first year students are able to start the accommodation request process after May 1st.

Faculty & Staff

Fairfield University encourages all faculty and staff to read all communications from the Office of Accessibility and to comply with all requested accommodations as written. If the request for accessibility accommodations is unclear, appears to fundamentally alter the requirements of the course, or appears to be unreasonable, faculty/staff are expected to contact the Office of Accessibility immediately. If a student requests accommodations and the faculty/staff member has not been notified of the student's need for accommodations by the Office of Accessibility, the faculty/staff member should refer the student to the Office of Accessibility.

Accommodations Request Process & Documentation Guidelines

The Office of Accessibility (“OOA”) is committed to providing accommodations to students with disabilities and temporary impairments to ensure that the student is provided with equal access to their academic and campus life activities. All accommodations requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and through an interactive process with each student.

Animals On Campus Policy

Fairfield University recognizes the importance of Service Animals as defined by the American with Disability Amendments Act (ADAA) and the broader category of Assistance Animals under the Fair Housing Act. The University is committed to allowing individuals with disabilities the use of Service Animals on campus to facilitate the individual’s full participation and equal access to the University’s programs and activities.
