About the Screening

Please join us for a screening of “Swim Team,” Lara Stolman’s award-winning documentary film that profiles the rise of the Jersey Hammerheads, a competitive swim team made up of a diverse group of teens on the autism spectrum. Following three teammates on the cusp of adulthood, when government services become scarce, “Swim Team” is a portrait of diverse American families grappling with the problem of "aging out."

Over the course of a year, "Swim Team" explores the overwhelming struggles they face and the triumphs they achieve as they strive for independence, inclusion, and a life that feels winning. Ultimately, the documentary offers an inspiring look at the power of community to transcend disability and create hope for the future.

There will be a Q&A session with the director, Lara Stolman, following the screening.

This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Special Education Program at the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions.
