As part of the 2017-2018 basketball season, the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU), is launching the Jesuit Basketball Classic – two games which highlight the spirit of good sportsmanship and friendly rivalry. The second game features the Fairfield Women’s basketball team taking on Boston College at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Sunday, December 3.
“It is an exciting honor for our Women’s Basketball team to be selected to participate in this event,” said Paul Schlickmann, Fairfield University’s Director of Athletics. “Our student-athletes are truly dedicated to the Jesuit mission of men and women for others and this is exemplified by their dedication to volunteering on campus and in our community. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Fairfield University and highlight the exceptional talent and commitment of our students.”
The first game of the Classic features Creighton vs. Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash., on Friday, December 1, and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
"Through the Jesuit Basketball Classics, we hope to educate fans about Jesuit higher education in the United States," said Deanna Howes Spiro, Director of Communications for AJCU. "Jesuit basketball has long been known as the greatest mission-centered tradition in college sports, and today's men's and women's basketball players at all 28 Jesuit colleges and universities carry on the legacy of athletes known for their great character both on and off the court."
