On Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m., Fairfield University’s Open VISIONS Forum will welcome the co-founder and executive director of Black Voters Matter, LaTosha Brown, to present the 24th Annual Jacoby-Lunin Humanitarian Lecture.
With more than 24 years of experience working to advance civil rights, social justice, human development, and the cultural arts, Brown is dedicated to leading social change. Her numerous initiatives and campaigns to influence and empower marginalized communities across the globe have raised millions of dollars. An effective fundraiser and resource person, Brown’s philanthropic efforts earned her the 2018 Bridge Jubilee Award and the Liberty Bell Award.
As the co-founder and executive director of Black Voters Matter (BVM), Brown fights to end voter suppression and to educate and empower black communities in our country. Recently, she helped create BVM’s 2021 Covid-19 Mutual Aid and Emergency Relief Self Determination Fund, aimed at providing emergency relief to populations such as Black immigrant communities. Raising more than $150,000, BVM was able to accomplish a variety of community-based goals, including local food delivery and mobile grocery programs.
LaTosha Brown has established herself as a trusted expert in political strategy, and a resource in advancing social justice across the world. Currently a fellow at the Institute of Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School, Brown continues to develop new philanthropic programs and projects. She is adamant about pushing people to access the power they hold within, in order to transform communities.
