FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 30, 2019) — Carrie Goldberg, an outspoken New-York based lawyer who specializes in internet abuse and sexual privacy cases, will speak at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 8 p.m.
In her lecture, Goldberg will share the story of how her personal experience with an ex-boyfriend became the catalyst for her advocacy in support of women and young girls who have experienced online harassment. In 2014, she founded her own firm, C.A. Goldberg, PLLC, to help victims of cybercrimes. Her book, Nobody’s Victim: Fighting Psychos, Stalkers, Pervs, and Trolls, co-authored by Jeannine Amber, shares stories from her major cases, including a lawsuit against the dating app Grindr, and her representation of Harvey Weinstein accusers.
Goldberg also serves on the board of the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative, which is working to establish laws against revenge porn in all 50 states.
In a recent Mother Jones interview, Goldberg explained, “I would love for a day to come where I’m put out of business because there aren’t predators and criminals and stalkers. But until that day comes, I want to tell everybody about the patterns, and who they are, and the forms that they take, and the weapons online and offline that they use. Because not only can it help us stay safer, we can pass on information to our friends.”
Goldberg’s lecture, titled “Demanding Justice for Victims: From Cyber Crimes to Federal Courts,” is the 22nd Annual Jacoby-Lunin Humanitarian Lectureship, in affiliation with the Carl & Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies at Fairfield University. It is presented by the Quick Center’s Open Visions Forum (OVF), a series dedicated to stimulating community-wide conversations about contemporary news topics and cultural trends. The discussion will be moderated by Professor Philip Eliasoph, PhD, founding OVF director.
