Fairfield University Dolan School of Business Professor to be Honored with Outstanding Accounting Educator Award

Fairfield University Charles F. Dolan School of Business accounting professor Joan Lee, CPA, PhD, will be honored with the 2019 American Accounting Association (AAA) Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (July 19, 2019) — Fairfield University Charles F. Dolan School of Business accounting professor Joan Lee, CPA, PhD, will be honored with the 2019 American Accounting Association (AAA) Outstanding Accounting Educator Award. The awards will be presented to Dr. Lee on August 13, 2019 at the AAA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California. The AAA is the largest community of accountants in academia.

Dr. Lee will receive the Outstanding Accounting Educator Award for career contributions that include educational innovation, excellence in teaching, publications, research guidance to graduate students, and significant involvement in professional and academic societies and activities.

Dr. Lee received a PhD in accounting from New York University and earned a MBA in finance as well as a BS in accounting, both from Fordham University. She has published numerous articles in the areas of accounting education and accounting ethics. Dr. Lee was named the 2008 Alpha Sigma Nu Teacher of the Year at Fairfield University, and was a recipient of the 2001 American Accounting Association Innovation in Accounting Education Award. In 2014, she received the Robert J. Spitzer, S.J. Award from the Colleagues in Jesuit Business Education for her service as board president, board member, and editor of Journal of Jesuit Business Education.

Dr. Lee teaches financial and managerial accounting, business ethics, and accounting ethics as part of the Dolan School of Business MS in Accounting (MSA) program. Graduate programs at the Dolan School of Business are among the best in the nation according to the 2019 “Best Graduate Schools” ranking from U.S. News & World Report; the Dolan School is ranked # 20 for graduate accounting. Additionally, The Accounting Path ranks the Dolan School #1 for Accounting in Connecticut.

The Dolan School MSA program is a cohort program that provides an interactive and dynamic setting for students to progress through a prescribed curriculum, grow their knowledge and skills, foster community, and build a professional network. Beginning each May, the 30-credit program is completed in just one year with a concentration on preparation for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.
