FAIRFIELD, Conn. (June 1, 2018) — Fairfield University, along with the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges (CCIC), and the Connecticut Mirror, has announced it will be hosting one of the final gubernatorial forums before the state’s primary election. The debate will be held on Monday, August 6, at 7 p.m. in the University’s Quick Center for the Arts. John Dankosky of Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR) will serve as the moderator.

“Debate forums are important as they are often the first time voters are meeting their potential elected officials,” said Gayle Alberda, PhD, associate professor of politics and director of the campaign training program for women, Ready to Run CT. “As Fairfield continues to create students who become global leaders, it’s important to expose them -- and the campus community –- to mediums that foster citizenship and greater understanding of the ever-changing political landscape.”

Fairfield University routinely hosts lecturers and speakers from across the political and cultural spectrum, including Jenn Bush Hagar and Alexandra Pelosi, best-selling author, PJ O’Rourke, former National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, political expert and television host, Chuck Todd, and more. Additionally, the University has a robust Masters of Public Administration program which provides a mix of theoretical and practical training for those who want to pursue a job within the public and nonprofit sector.

“Fairfield University remains committed to providing forums in which the community can be educated on important local and national events,” said Jennifer Anderson ’97, MBA’02, vice president of Marketing and Communications. “We’re excited to be able to host this debate and provide an opportunity for the voters and candidates to come together before the primary election.”

The debate is free and open to the public. Information on free tickets will be announced soon. For questions, please contact Teddy DeRosa, Fairfield University associate director of PR & Community Relations, at tderosa@fairfield.edu .
