FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 24, 2017) — Audience favorite Orin Grossman returns to the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University, performing for the first time ever with brother Jerry Grossman, principal cellist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and sister-in-law Korliss Uecker, an operatic soprano whose career includes over 150 performances with the Metropolitan Opera. This special performance featuring classical music with Schubert, Brahms and more, and aptly entitled All in the Family , will take place on Sunday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m.

While all three musicians have storied performance histories  (Orin has played at the Quick to a full house on numerous occasions), this is the first time the musical family members will be on stage together in public.

Orin is a musician and academic with decades of service in the Fairfield University community, holding titles of dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, academic vice president, and (currently) emeritus professor of Visual and Performing Arts.

After his Carnegie Hall debut recital, he performed a series of innovative New York recitals combining jazz, popular, and classical music. Gary Giddins, noted author and jazz critic, wrote in The Village Voice , “The need for a new kind of recitalist—one who can play Chopin, Liszt, and Monk—has long been evident. He has appeared in the person of Orin Grossman. The selections complemented each other and his playing was enlightening, entertaining…with a lucid approach and clarity of touch that served him well throughout.”

Orin’s brother, Jerry Grossman, has been principal cellist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra since 1986. Mr. Grossman attended the Curtis Institute of Music and has held faculty positions at the Juilliard School, SUNY Binghamton, and DePaul University. The New York Times called Mr. Grossman a “consistently compelling and imaginative interpreter,” and Musical America referred to him as a “virtuoso throughout…magnificent.”

Korliss Uecker, a tour de force in her own right, completes the trio that will take the stage. A graduate of the Juilliard School with both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, Ms. Uecker has sung more than 150 performances with the Metropolitan Opera, including the role of Susanna in the Marriage of Figaro , and in Carmen with Placido Domingo. Her career also includes varied solo exhibitions, contemporary collaborations, and chamber music performances. She is a member of Feminine Musique, a Duo dedicated to the performance of music by women composers as well as traditional duet literature. In addition to her singing career, Ms. Uecker is frequently engaged as a Master Class teacher, adjudicator, and lecturer.

All in the Family: Orin Grossman, Jerry Grossman, and Korliss Uecker is sponsored by Moffly Media, and will be at the Quick Center on Sunday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $35, $30, Quick Members Price: $22.
