FAIRFIELD, Conn. (August 10, 2017)— Fairfield University’s Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies will host a Train the Trainer Certificate Course October 7-10, 2017 .

The Community Resilience Model (CRM) Train the Trainer Certification Course is open to both licensed and non-licensed people who work with individuals and communities who have suffered trauma. First responders, police, fire, veterans, nurses, therapists, and students are welcome to apply. The course is 25 CEUs for licensed mental health professionals.

CRM builds capacity within organizations and communities in the aftermath of traumatic events. This 4-day workshop trains participants to teach children and adults, specific skills and techniques which build resilience and introduces strategies are interwoven into the trainings taking into consideration the developmental age and culture of those being served by the trainers.

The course will be taught by Elaine Miller Karas, LCSW . Elaine is the executive director and co-founder of the Trauma Resource Institute and adjunct faculty at Loma Linda University’s School of Social Work and Social Ecology. She is the author Building Resilience to Trauma: The Trauma and Community Resiliency Models. Elaine is the co-founder and co-developer of the Trauma Resiliency Model and has taught this model and the Community Resiliency Model in Haiti, China, Mexico, Kenya, Nepal, Germany, South Africa, Guatemala, Northern Ireland, Iceland, Tanzania, Rwanda, Turkey and the Philippines.
