New Vice Provost of Fairfield University Announced | Press Releases

FAIRFIELD, Conn., (August 3, 2017) —Fairfield University has announced Don Gibson, PhD, as Vice Provost in the Office of Academic Affairs. His appointment will begin September 1, 2017.

Dr. Gibson has served as Dean of the Dolan School of Business for the past six years, overseeing the School’s expanding and innovative programming, national recognition, top tier rankings, and increased enrollment. A Professor of Management, Dr. Gibson has taught courses in organizational behavior and leadership at Fairfield since 2001. Most recently, Dr. Gibson has served as Special Assistant to the Provost throughout several leadership transitions, including the appointment of the University’s new president.

“Together, with Don, we will be working to ensure Fairfield University continues to deliver a wide range of high quality academic programs in the Jesuit tradition, fulfilling our commitment to academic excellence, integrated thinking, and social responsibility,” said Interim Provost, Christine Siegel, PhD. “I am delighted that Don will now bring his leadership and energy to the Provost’s office, as we continue to deepen, refine, and expand our academic programming."

Dr. Gibson is joining a team in the Provost’s office that includes Dr. Siegel, and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Mary Frances Malone, PhD. During the transition, Mark Ligas, PhD, currently associate dean of the Dolan School, will serve as interim dean, and Dawn Massey, PhD, will service as interim associate dean. A national search for the permanent Dolan School dean will begin in the Fall of 2017.
