FAIRFIELD, CONN. (October 3, 2016)—Dr. John Murphy, president and chief executive officer of the Western Connecticut Health Network, will be the featured speaker at the 10th Annual Communion Breakfast on Sunday, November 6, 2016 .
The morning will begin at 9 a.m. at Fairfield University’s Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola with the concelebration of mass by the Most Rev. Frank J. Caggiano, Bishop of Bridgeport. The breakfast and Dr. John Murphy’s talk will be held in the nearby Oak Room of the Barone Campus Center immediately following the mass.
This year’s Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) Business Leadership Award will be presented to Gail T. Berardino for her philanthropic work for the American Association of the Knights of Malta.
Dr. John Murphy , whose talk entitled, “Is Healthcare Simply A Commodity? The Risks of Commercializing Our Healthcare Delivery System,” is a neurologistwhojoined Danbury Hospital as executive vice president in 2008 and became the hospital’s president and CEO in July 2010.
Before joining the American Association of The Knights of Malta, Gail T. Berardino had a 30-year career in management at the McCall Pattern Company. In 2010, Berardino retired as vice president of advertising and promotions and publisher of Vogue Patterns Magazine . During her time at McCall Pattern Company, she pioneered mass-market promotions for Vogue, Butterick and McCall Patterns, products to national multi-channel retailers including Wal-Mart, QVC, and Jo-Ann Fabrics. She also authored the Super Sweater Idea Book.
Gail and her husband Joe have actively supported Catholic and Jesuit missions, including establishing scholarships at Fairfield University, Boston College, and Georgetown Universities. In 2010, Berardino co-chaired the Order’s 25 th Annual Pilgrimage to Lourdes where over 400 volunteers, including doctors and nurses, helped the sick and poor.
