Award-winning Italian pianist Alessio Bax Brings Classical Music to Life at the Quick | Press Releases

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (December 19, 2016) — Award-winning classical pianist Alessio Bax will take the stage at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University on Friday, January, 20, 2017 to perform a concert of Scriabin and Ravel at 8 p.m.

Deemed by International Piano as “a pianist of refreshing depth,” Bax shows off an extensive concerto repertoire and is a recurring performer on the international summer festival circuit, taking the stages of prestigious festivals such as the International Piano Series in England, Beethovenfest Bonn in Germany and the Bard Music Festival in upstate New York. He was last at the Quick Center with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in 2013.

A recipient of the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award, as well as Lincoln Center’s Martin E. Segal Award recognizing young artists of exceptional accomplishment, Bax has performed concerts at L.A.’s Disney Hall, Washington’s Kennedy Center, and New York’s Carnegie Hall, and has been a part of the Lincoln Center’s Great Performers series.

Bax graduated with top honors at the record age of 14 from the Conservatory of Bari in Bari, Italy, and went on to attend the Chigiana Academy in Siena. Currently, Bax is the Johnson-Prothro Artist-in-Residence at Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts with his wife Lucille Chung. The duo also serves as co-artistic directors of Dallas’ Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation, created to cultivate the legacy of the Basque pianist and to support young pianists’ careers.

In his forthcoming Quick Center performance, Bax will showcase his prowess for classical works through a selection specially curated by Alexander Platt, music director for Maverick Concerts, the Wisconsin Philharmonic and the Marion Indiana Philharmonic.
