Event is part of new series about pressing issues in healthcare, sponsored by Fairfield University’s Integrated Nursing and Health Studies Initiative.

When: Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 5 p.m. The media is welcome to attend this event for Fairfield University students that will address diversity in healthcare professions and the opportunities and challenges that emerge.

What: A panel of healthcare professionals will be on hand for what promises to be an engaging presentation, entitled, “Embracing Diversity in Healthcare Professions: Confronting Issues, Maximizing Opportunities.” Speakers include Emma Andrews, Pharm.D., pharmaceuticals executive and director of External Medical Affairs at Pfizer; Tamika Dickens ’10, MHS PA-C, physician assistant in internal medicine and New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center; Sandy Cayo, DNP ’14 , FNP-BC, a member of Fairfield University’s School of Nursing faculty; and Anne-Sophie Janvier ’12, a medical student at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

Panelists will discuss the opportunities and challenges present within their professions, share resources for pre-health students, and discuss how healthcare culture impacts its practice.

Where: Kelley Center Presentation Room, in the Aloysius P. Kelley S.J. Center.

Why: The Integrated Nursing and Health Studies Initiative, developed by Fairfield University’s School of Nursing and the College of Arts and Sciences seeks to promote integrated health science education to meet the urgent demands of health care systems and industries in the 21st Century.
