Fairfield University Celebrates a Tradition of Opportunity with 27th Annual Awards Dinner

Fairfield University celebrates a commitment to tradition and excellence with the school’s largest fundraiser, while also recognizing its most accomplished alumni, faculty and staff.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (February 17, 2015) - Fairfield University's 27th Annual Fairfield Awards Dinner, will be held on Thursday, March 26th, 2015, at the Grand Hyatt New York in New York City. The Fairfield Awards Dinner benefits The Multicultural Scholarship Fund and is Fairfield University's major fundraising event.

The Multicultural Scholarship Fund has been the primary beneficiary of the Awards Dinner, held annually since 1988. Over the course of its twenty-seven years, the Fairfield Awards Dinner has raised over $14 million for the endowed Multicultural Scholarship Fund, providing scholarships to students from diverse backgrounds.

Fairfield Awards Dinner Co-Chairs are Douglas W. Hammond ’86, Chairman and CEO of NFP, and Paul J. Huston ’82, Chairman of Hudson Ferry Capital.

This year's Awards Dinner features as keynote speaker Tom Llamas, anchor and correspondent for ABC News. An Emmy Award-winner for “Best Anchor,” Llamas has covered historical events including the Boston Marathon bombings, super storm Sandy, and the earthquake in Haiti. A graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans, Llamas is passionate about Jesuit education.

The Fairfield Awards Dinner will also recognize alumni, faculty, and staff for the highest levels of professional achievement, outstanding leadership, academic excellence, and meritorious service. The 2015 dinner honorees are:

Alumni Professional Achievement Award , Brian P. Hull ’80, P’13, Chairman of Strategic Clients and Partnerships for the UBS Group – Americas , a leading global wealth management franchise that integrates and finds synergies among the Investment Bank and Global Asset Management divisions. Hull is a member of the Board of Trustees of Fairfield University.

Alumni Service Award , Elner L. Morrell ’81, P’03, is an IT Architecture Consultant for UnitedHealth Group, Inc. , a Fortune 100 company that provides a broad spectrum of resources and services to help people achieve improved health and well-being through all stages of life. Morrell has been a member of the Fairfield University Board of Trustees since 2002 and an advisory board member for the School of Nursing since 2005. Morrell is a dedicated community volunteer, serving on the board for the Connecticut Community Foundation, which fosters creative partnerships that build rewarding lives, and thriving communities.

Distinguished Faculty/Administrator Award, Mark C. Reed ’96, Fairfield University’s Senior Vice President for Administration and Chief of Staff , received his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and an MBA from Fairfield University. He is a former president of the Jesuit Student Affairs Association (JASPA) and teaches as an adjunct faculty member in the Mathematics Department. Prior to his work in higher education, Reed’s experience includes teaching and administration at the secondary level. He also holds a master’s degree in secondary education administration from Boston College and a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania.

The Alternate Routes, an alumnus-formed band that has been gaining worldwide attention, will perform their unique blend of rock and acoustic music at this year’s dinner. Lead by vocalist Tim Warren ’04 and guitarist Eric Donnelly ’01 with drummer Kurt Leon ’07, they have been performing together for over a decade.
