Fairfield University Glee Club to offer songs by Rolling Stones, Smokey Robinson and more on April 30

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (April 14, 2015) – The Fairfield University Glee Club will present “Glee Goes Rock ’N Roll: ’50s ’60s ’70s,” featuring the music of Queen, Carole King, Otis Redding and more, at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 30, at the University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. The concert will feature performances by the full Glee Club, conducted by Carole Ann Maxwell, D.S.M., the all-male a cappella group The Bensonians, the all-female chamber group Sweet Harmony, The Pops Band and The Glee Band. General admission tickets are $10, $6 for students.

The Glee Club will open the evening with Queen’s anthem “We Will Rock You,” a stirring start to a program featuring Redding’s “Respect,” The Rolling Stones’ “Start Me Up” and Michael Jackson’s “Blame It on the Boogie.” Other selections include Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen,” Paul Simon’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”

The Fairfield University Glee Club, founded in 1947, is the oldest club on the Fairfield University campus. The members share a deep love for music and a common desire to achieve excellence in it. The Glee Club numbers over 130 undergraduate and graduate singers. It is the parent organization of two additional choral ensembles: Sweet Harmony and The Bensonians. The Fairfield University Chamber Singers is the first mixed choir on campus. Founded in 1982 by Dr. Maxwell and Dr. Orin Grossman, it is an ensemble of auditioned singers, whose advanced repertoire, both sacred and secular, have led to a wide acclaim in the area.
