Budding Spielbergs, Tarantinos and Bigelows to screen their films at upcoming event. Prizes to be awarded in 13 categories.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (April 23, 2015) - It’s time to roll out the red carpet for this year’s Cinefest.

The Film, Television, and Media Arts Program of the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Fairfield University will present Cinefest Fairfield 2015, a student film festival, on Friday, May 1, at 6 p.m. in the Kelley Theatre of the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

This event is free and open to the public and will begin with a pre-show, which includes light refreshments, a gathering of student filmmakers and crew, and red-carpet interviews.

Rev. Mark Scalese, S.J., director of the Film, Television, and Media Arts Program, said, “Every year Cinefest gives us the opportunity to showcase the best of our students’ work. They are dedicated artists who work incredibly hard at what they do. Cinefest really gives them the chance to shine.”

Cinefest features student short films that have been accepted to be screened during the event. Awards will be presented in 13 various categories including the Audience Choice Award, which the Cinefest audience votes for that night after all the accepted films are screened.

“This year’s films promise to explore important issues related to the human condition, and of course to be entertaining as well,” said Rev. James Mayzik, S.J., associate professor of Visual and Performing Arts.
