Theatre Fairfield Produces Student-Directed Plays with “Director’s Cut” | Press Releases

Fairfield Students Theatre Fairfield , Fairfield University 's resident production company, presents “Director's Cut,” a collection of six student-directed, acted and designed 10-minute plays. This production will be performed at the PepsiCo Theatre on campus, on Thursday, December 4 and Saturday, December 6 at 8 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, December 7. Tickets are $12 general admission, $6 for seniors and University staff, and $5 for students.

In addition, Theatre Fairfield is proud to support the Bridgeport Arts Initiative and will be giving a free performance of “Director’s Cut” at historic McLevy Hall, Bridgeport, at 7 p.m., Sunday, December 7. This will be a touring version of the show, with minimal scenery or lighting. It will take place in the old Probate Courtroom on the third floor of the building, which is at the corner of Broad and State streets in downtown Bridgeport. Parking will be available on the street or in the Ralph & Rich’s parking lot at the end of Markle Court, about one block from McLevy Hall. The performance is sponsored by Misencik Photography, Suite 301, McLevy Hall.

“Director’s Cut” is an extravaganza of short plays that range from hilarious comedy to touching drama and everything in between. These one-acts not only feature six new directors, but also introduce several Fairfield students making their Theatre Fairfield debuts. “Buying a Brassiere” by Rebecca Ritchie, directed by Tori Schuchmann ’16, tells the empowering story of one woman’s journey to find the perfect fit; “Chiaroscuro” by Lisa Dillman, directed by Nick Solimini ’16, is about a girl who grows up in a home where words have the immense power that can either push people together or pull them apart; “Stairway to Heaven” by Gregory Fletcher, directed by Maggie Greene ’15, is a quick, witty play about two siblings reconnecting in a time of tragedy; “4-1-1” by David Fleisher, directed by Katie Premus ’15, tells the story of a caller in desperate need of information, but asks what happens when the operator needs some guidance?; “I’ll Fly Away” by David Rush, directed by Logan Pratt ’15, tells the story of a father and his daughter who are on a journey to try and understand each other; and “Rumple Schmumple” by Megan Gogerty, directed by Franco Luzzi ’15, is a twisted adaptation of the beloved Rumplestiltskin fairy tale.

Theatre Fairfield is Fairfield University’s resident production company. The theatre program at Fairfield offers students a liberal arts education infused with the theoretical and everyday aspects of the professional theatre. Theatre Fairfield produces three or more productions every year and serves as a platform for community engagement as well a positive and professional learning environment. The next production of the season is “The Shape of Things” by Neil Labute and will take place this coming January with the generous funding of the Jamie A. Hulley Arts Foundation.
