Fairfield University offers weeklong Summer Conference for Writers

Image: Enders Island Looking to inspire the writer within? Fairfield University's MFA in Creative Writing Program will host the first annual Fairfield University Summer Conference for Writers from July 18 through 22 on the scenic and inspirational Enders Island, off the coast of Mystic, Connecticut.

Award-winning faculty from the University's low-residency MFA program will lead workshops in prose and poetry, seminars and craft talks and present readings. Participants will also take part in agent and editor Q&A panels, gaining insight on navigating the publishing world.

Published authors on the faculty include MFA Director Michael White ("Soul Catcher," "Garden of the Martyrs"), Rachel Basch ("The Passion of Reverend Nash"), Da Chen ("Colors of the Mountain," "Brothers"), Sonya Huber ("Opa Nobody," "Cover Me: A Health Insurance Memoir") and Hollis Seamon ("Somebody Up There Hates You"). With their guidance, Fairfield MFA students have published 16 books in the past two years.

"Fairfield's Summer Writers Conference is a great way to help beginning writers to get started and for more advanced writers to hone their skills," said Dr. White. "Workshops, seminars, panels, discussions, and readings - all among a community of writers - help writers find their voice."

The application process requires an application form, writing sample and a nonrefundable deposit of $60. Accepted writers will pay an additional $740 tuition fee, which includes a welcome reception and dinner on July 18 and lunch each day. Breakfasts, dinners and overnight accommodations are not included in the fee. Participants may opt for a full meal plan during the conference for an additional $180.
