Details: On Monday, August 25, 2015, at 11 a.m. on the campus of Fairfield University, in Fairfield, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) will meet with students, staff and other advocates to solicit feedback on bipartisan legislation introduced in July to combat campus sexual assault by protecting and empowering students as well as strengthening campus accountability and transparency.

This is the second such visit Senator Blumenthal has made to the University to discuss the growing national problem, and the first since the introduction, in July, of bipartisan federal legislation designed to address this complex issue. Earlier, in March, the Senator convened on the Fairfield campus a roundtable on the topic in an effort to learn about campus climates, attitudes and cultures.

In a report issued in May by Senator Blumenthal, Fairfield University was one of three colleges and universities in Connecticut cited for best practices for its policies to prevent campus sexual assault. The report was a culmination of a series of statewide campus dialogues with more than 450 Connecticut students, faculty, administrators and advocates.

Appearing with Sen. Blumenthal on Monday (Aug. 25) are: Laura Cordes, executive director, Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services, Inc.; Judy Greiman , president, Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges; Jeffrey von Arx S.J., president of Fairfield University; Dr. Thomas Pellegrino , vice president for Student Affairs, Fairfield University; Gary McNamara , chief of police, Town of Fairfield; and Rachel Lang , community educator, Center for Family Justice.
