Fairfield University Board of Trustees announces five new members | Press Releases

Image: Fairfield University Fairfield University announces the election of five new members to the Board of Trustees of Fairfield University. They are: Ceasar N. Anquillare '78 , chairman and chief executive officer of Winchester Capital; Kevin P. Cannon '80 , chief executive officer of Zweig-DiMenna Associates LLC; Carlos M. Cardoso '81 , chairman, president, and CEO of Kennametal Inc.; Robin Kanarek '96 , a registered nurse and president of the Kanarek Family Foundation; and Stephen M. Lessing '76 , a Managing Director and Head of Senior Relationship Management at Barclays and a former Trustee, who served on the Board from 2000 to 2012. The election of new members took place at Fairfield University's Board of Trustees meeting held October 3, 2013.

Ceasar N. Anquillare '78 is the chairman and chief executive officer of Winchester Capital, a strategic advisory firm that specializes in global private equity and international mergers and acquisitions. Located adjacent to the Yale University campus in New Haven, CT, and also in London, Winchester was founded in 1986 by Mr. Anquillare and the family investment office of the late Hon. Averell Harriman, a partner of Brown Brothers Harriman and former U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain. Upon the appointment of the Hon. Pamela Harriman as U.S. Ambassador to France in 1995, Mr. Anquillare acquired the firm together with his London colleagues. Winchester subsequently entered into a Global Co-Investment Agreement with Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, where Mr. Anquillare also served as Adviser for private equity and technology based investments. In 2006, Winchester advised AIG on the acquisition of the $1.4bn Dresdner Kleinwort Benson global private equity portfolio, which remains one of the largest secondary transactions in history. Mr. Anquillare also served as a non-executive director of a publicly traded fund of funds investing in global emerging markets, and has served on the boards of companies listed on the NASDAQ and London Stock Exchanges.

Mr. Anquillare holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science (Georgetown University and Fairfield University). He undertook further post graduate studies in law at the University of London and has a certificate in Corporate Governance from the Harvard Business School. Mr. Anquillare previously has served as an adviser to the U.S. Agency for International Development during the administrations of the late President Ronald Reagan and former President George H. W. Bush. Mr. Anquillare is a Justice of the Peace and was appointed Honorary Ambassador to the United Kingdom and European Union by the Governor of the State of Connecticut. Mr. Anquillare is a director of the St. George's Society of New York, British American Business Inc. and also the British-American Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc.

Kevin P. Cannon '80 is chief executive officer of Zweig-DiMenna Associates LLC, a New York based investment adviser. Mr. Cannon began his career at Deloitte & Touche after graduating from Fairfield in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He was partner in charge of the Connecticut tax practice prior to joining Joe DiMenna '80, former University Trustee, at Zweig-DiMenna as chief operating officer in 1998. Mr. Cannon is a member of the Fairfield University Charles F. Dolan School of Business Advisory Council. Since 2003 he has been a director of the DiMenna Foundation, which supports organizations in the arts, education, and child development. Mr. Cannon and his wife, Elaine, live in Easton, CT, with their son Nicholas.

Carlos M. Cardoso '81 is chairman, president, and CEO of Kennametal Inc., a leading industrial technology company that develops highly engineered tooling, advanced materials, and expertise to diverse sectors in industrial production, transportation, energy, and infrastructure. Before joining Kennametal in 2003, Mr. Cardoso served as president of the Pump Division of Flowserve Corporation, and at Honeywell/AlliedSignal as a leader in one of the company's aerospace businesses.

Mr. Cardoso is a member of the Fairfield University Charles F. Dolan School of Business Advisory Council. He is a member of the U.S. Manufacturing Council, which advises the Secretary of Commerce on matters relating to global competitiveness, and government policies and programs of importance to U.S. manufacturers. He also serves as chairman of the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI), and is on the board of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). He is co-chair of the Pennsylvania Governor's Manufacturing Advisory Council, and serves on the boards of Hubbell Inc., Stanley Black & Decker, among others. Mr. Cardoso earned his undergraduate degree in business administration at Fairfield University, a master's degree in management from the Hartford Graduate Center, and an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

Robin Kanarek '96 has been a registered nurse since 1979 and has worked in the clinical areas of cardiology, spinal cord injury, physical rehabilitation, and diabetes education. She is the president of the Kanarek Family Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 2006 to honor the memory of her son, David, who died in 2000 following a lengthy battle with leukemia. Funding from the Foundation established the Kanarek Learning Resource Center in the Fairfield University School of Nursing.

Ms. Kanarek has served on the Stamford Hospital Foundation Board in Stamford, CT, and the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Foundation in Greenwich, CT. She also serves on the board of trustees at Greenwich Hospital, a regional affiliate of the Yale New Haven Health System. She has been an active board member of Fairfield University's Nursing Advisory Board since its inception in 2002 and currently serves as chairperson. Ms. Kanarak and her husband live in Greenwich, CT. Their daughter Sarah just completed graduate studies at Boston University's Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation in Occupational Therapy.

Stephen M. Lessing '76 is a Managing Director and Head of Senior Relationship Management at Barclays. He is a senior advisor to the Corporate and Investment Banking Executive Committee, and a member of the Markets Management Committee. Prior to joining Barclays in September 2008, Mr. Lessing was a member of the Executive Committee and Head of Senior Relationship Management at Lehman Brothers. Mr. Lessing is also a member of the Board of Trustees Emeritus and Investment Committee of the University of Richmond, the President's Leadership Council of Dartmouth College, the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation, the Investment Committee and Finance Council of the Archdiocese of New York, Director of Summit Golf Brands and Chairman of the Board of Lessing's, Inc. Mr. Lessing received an undergraduate degree in economics, and was a varsity tennis player while attending Fairfield University. He and his wife Sandra have four children. They live in Cold Spring Harbor, NY.

The Board of Trustees of Fairfield University is a group of individuals empowered to act as a body to make policy and fiduciary decisions and to govern the affairs of the institution. The Board of Trustees is composed of members who are nominated because of their stature and influence in their community and their respective expertise. While Board members are not involved in the day-to-day operation of the University, they are responsible for seeing that the mission of the University and its goals and objectives are carried out in the operations of the institution.
