Resource for journalists seeking an expert on the European Union financial system, Greece's economy, the U.S. stock market and its monetary policies

Laopodis, Ph.D., associate professor of finance, can discuss Greece's complex financial problems, global monetary and fiscal policies as well as international investments. He is currently conducting research on the diversification benefits of various global asset classes and the impact of monetary policies on stock markets.

Dr. Laopodis has published extensively in the fields of finance and economics focusing on interest rates, exchange rates, stock markets and economic policies both in Europe and the U.S. His recent papers have explored such topics as sovereign bond markets integration within the European Union, as well as real investment and the stock market in the U.S. He has also recently (2012) published an undergraduate textbook in investments (Understanding Investments: Theories and Strategies, Routledge).

In an OP-ED published by Hearst Newspapers, Dr. Laopodis, who was born and raised in Greece, wrote that Greece is "deep into a whirl of political, social and economic woes that do not seem to fade," keeping the country into a vicious circle of poverty, political instability, social degradation and underdevelopment. He is a regular member and contributor to professional organizations like Financial Management Association and Eastern Finance Association. He has taught at various universities in the United States and in Greece and has been invited to give lectures to universities and international organizations in Europe.
