Former Trustee John P. Sachs dies

Image: John Sachs Former Fairfield University Trustee, John P. Sachs, Ph.D., 86, died Feb. 20, in Wilton, Connecticut.

Dr. Sachs served on the Board of Trustees of Fairfield University from 1980 to 1992. He and his wife Mary Kay, supported campus ministry and established a scholarship fund for nursing students.  In May 2002, he was presented with an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University.

A native of Düsseldorf, Germany, he spent his childhood in Berlin and Hilterfingen, Switzerland. He later came to the U.S. where he served in the Army during World War II.

Dr. Sachs received his Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

His son, Christopher H. Sachs, is a member of the Fairfield class of 1979. Another son, Rev. John R. Sachs, is a member of the Society of Jesus.

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Tuesday, February 29 at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan, Connecticut.
