Notable author Joshua Henkin to speak at Fairfield University

Image: The world without you Award-winning author Joshua Henkin will visit Fairfield University to discuss his novel "The World Without You" on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 7 p.m. His talk, which is part of the Inspired Writer Series, will be held in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room.

The event is free and open to the public and sponsored by Fairfield's MFA in Creative Writing program.

The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune have both named Joshua Henkin's latest work, "The World Without You," an Editors' Choice Book. The novel is the 2012 winner of the Edward Lewis Wallant Award for Jewish American Fiction and is also a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award in 2012. Commentary Magazine has praised Henkin, stating that "few American novelists, living or dead, have ever been as good as Henkin at drawing people."

Image: J Henkin "The World Without You," which has recently been released in paperback from Vintage Books, deals with marital disputes and sibling rivalries, volatile women and silent men, and with the true meaning of family. Independence Day and the war in Iraq frame the story.

Henkin is also the author of the New York Times Notable Book "Matrimony" and "Swimming Across the Hudson," a Los Angeles Times Notable Book. His short stories have been published widely and cited for distinction in "Best American Short Stories , " in addition to being broadcast on NPR's "Selected Shorts."

Henkin lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., and directs the MFA Program in Fiction Writing at Brooklyn College.
