Local writers to read from their work at Fairfield University Bookstore

Image: Farifield University Bookstore Fairfield University will celebrate the launch of the 12th issue of Dogwood: A Journal of Poetry and Prose and the talent of several local writers with an evening of readings, art and more at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 18, at Fairfield University Bookstore, 1499 Post Road, Fairfield. The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.

Dogwood is a national literary journal based at Fairfield University and edited with significant contributions from teams of students as part of two English courses. The 12th issue includes the winners of the 2013 Dogwood contest, which offers prizes in three genres, including a grand prize award of $1,000.

One of the evening's featured authors is poet Claire Zoghb, winner of the 2008 Dogwood poetry award. A New Haven, Conn., resident, Zoghb is the author of the collection Small House Breathing , which won the 2008 Quercus Review Poetry Series Award. Zoghb is two-time Pushcart Prize nominee.

In addition to the readings, Fairfield will welcome artist Gordon Skinner, a New Haven painter and sculptor whose work graces the cover of the 12th issue. Students from the undergraduate creative writing concentration will also read from their work and student editors will be recognized.
