Film series brings world famous art exhibitions to big screen

Quick Center for the Arts presents Manet: Portraying Life , a film about French artist Edouard Manet's landmark exhibition currently at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2013. This debut screening is part of a new three-part film series, Exhibition, which brings world famous art exhibitions to the big screen. Tickets are $15, general admission; $10, student and child; and $5 for Fairfield University faculty, staff, and students.

The Royal Academy of Arts' exhibition, "Manet: Portraying Life," which closes April 14, 2013, is the first ever major exhibition in the UK devoted to the portraiture of Edouard Manet (1832-1883), spanning his entire career. The exhibition brings together great works from across Europe, Asia and the U.S. With the screening of Manet: Portraying Life , cinemagoers will see exclusive behind-the-scenes moments of the Royal Academy's exhibition preparation - moments usually hidden from view - and experience a detailed, superbly crafted biography of Manet and 19th century Paris. Host Tim Marlow along with expert guests examine the work of one of the all-time great artists.

Upcoming Exhibition screenings include " Munch 150," at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013. This year, Norway is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Edvard Munch (1863-1944), one of the towering figures of modern art. Munch 150 , co-hosted by the National Museum and the Munch Museum (both in Oslo), is already being hailed as a "once-in-a-lifetime show". Many know Munch as the man who painted "The Scream," but his complete works are remarkable and secure his place as one of the greatest artists to have ever lived.

Exhibition: "Vermeer and Music: The Art of Love and Leisure," will be screened at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2013. ( tickets for this broadcast will go on sale in the summer of 2013). The National Gallery, London, is offering a major exhibition on one of the most startling and fascinating artists of all-time, Johannes Vermeer, painter of the "Girl with a Pearl Earring". Vermeer painted little more than 30 works that still exist, and the National Gallery has chosen to focus on his art in relation to music. The film goes beyond the exhibition to tell the entire story of Vermeer's life.

Multi-award-winning arts documentary maker Phil Grabsky says "I have been driven by the desire to share the thrill of great exhibitions with everyone from Kansas City to Adelaide, Osaka to Naples, and Glasgow to Cape Town. To be launching with three stunning shows from three top-notch venues is an absolute thrill." Echoing Grabsky's comments, film host Tim Marlow adds "I think that standing face to face with some of the greatest works of art ever made is one of the most powerful experiences in life.
