Social media expert to speak at Fairfield University Bookstore

Stop by the Fairfield University Bookstore at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, for "Yourself Online: Personal Branding and How to Use Social Media For More Than Just Connecting With Friends," featuring Kate Brodock, executive director of Digital & Social Media at Syracuse University. The event, sponsored by Fairfield University's Web Communications Department, is free and open to the public.

Brodock works in Syracuse's Marketing & Communication Division, where she oversees the strategy and implementation of campus-wide initiatives online. Her expertise is in marketing strategy, new media marketing, brand management and content production. She is also founder and chair of the Other Side Group and she edits and creates Digital and Social Media News , an online newspaper at http://paper.li/just_kate/1294615242 .

Brodock is CMO of Girls in Tech, a global organization for the empowerment, engagement and education of influential women in technology, and she is on the strategy board of the Meta-Activism Project, a think-tank dedicated to the field of digital activism. She has written for Forbes and Mashable .

Brodock holds an MBA from Goizueta Business School at Emory University, where she focused on entrepreneurship and marketing, an M.A. in international relations from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, and bachelor's degrees in history and political science from the University of Rochester.

Web Communications is a part of the Marketing and Communications division of Fairfield University and coordinates the public websites and social media marketing and information services for the University and community. Web Communications Director Scott Barnett and Nikki Pellows, the University's new media coordinator, will introduce Brodock.
