Panel of Connecticut intellectual property lawyers to explore the new 'America Invents Act' at Fairfield University event

Image: Fairfield campus A Fairfield University event exploring the new 'America Invents Act' originally scheduled for October has been postponed until Tuesday, November 27, 2012. A panel of Fairfield County intellectual property lawyers will discuss the pressing ramifications of the new act at a Fairfield University School of Engineering -sponsored event. Free and open to the public, the event - co-sponsored by the Inventors Association of Connecticut (IACT) - will be held in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room.

The focus will be the implications of the new patent process "First to File" versus the historical "First to Invent" process. Panelists will elaborate on the implications to the independent inventor, including opportunities and potential negatives associated with the changes.

"In short, the goal is to make all attendees aware, informed inventors to avoid any missteps in the future," said Dr. Douglas Lyon, chairman of Computer Engineering at Fairfield and president of the IACT. "To paraphrase Sy Syms, 'An Educated Inventor Is Our Best Member.' "
