Image: Fairfield University Fairfield University officials announced today (Thursday, Nov. 1) that both undergraduate and graduate classes are cancelled for Friday, November 2. However, graduate classes only will be held on Saturday November 3. All classes will resume on Monday, November 5.

The University is working to accommodate the approximately 300 students who reside at Fairfield beach and were forced to evacuate. Approximately half of those students will be accommodated in spaces on campus. Others will commute from their hometowns. Faculty, staff and alumni who reside in the area are being asked to contact the University if they have available space in their home to temporarily accommodate a displaced student.

The first individual to step up and offer his residence was University President Jeffrey P. von Arx, S. J. In a letter to the University community, Fairfield University President Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J., thanked everyone for their hard work and "for all that you are doing to assist one another in these trying circumstances. You and your families are in my prayers as well, and I appreciate all that you are doing to overcome the individual challenges that you face as we work together as a University community to resume normal operations and to keep one another safe."

A limited number of University events are taking place throughout the weekend while others are cancelled or postponed. Special programming is being planned for students who remain on campus. A list of the status of University events is available on the institution's website .
