Fairfield University students currently taking the course "The Art and Technique of Directing" in the College of Arts & Science's Theatre Department work throughout the semester to produce an evening of one-act plays. "Director's Cut" is the culmination of their efforts. "Director's Cut" features nine one-acts that touch on subjects such as teen pregnancy and have locations ranging from Brooklyn rooftops to spaceships. "In addition to being a terrific learning experience for our directing students, 'Director's Cut' is a terrific evening of theatre," says Dr. Martha LoMonaco, Fairfield University Professor of Visual and Performing Arts and professor of the course. "These are all fascinating little plays that present intriguing characters engaged in ethical, moral, and 'life' dilemmas relevant to our audiences. The evening truly provides more than one 'something' for everyone!"

The student-directors and plays include: Leigh Ann Albanese '14, directing "Surrender" by Barry Brodsky; Owen Corey '14, directing "The Turnover" by Adam Kraar; Grace Janiszewski '14, directing "Rush to Judgment" by Nancy Hanna; Michael Maio '13, directing "Covers" by Sandra Perlman; Josh Matteo '13, directing "Contact" by Doug Grissom; Adam Powers '13, directing "The Competent Heart" by Pat Montley; Joe Plouffe '13, directing "Layla Miserables" by Olga Humphrey; Ashley Ruggiero '14, directing "Undress Me Clarence" by Doug Grissom; and Lauren Sippin '13, directing "The Blocking Maneuver" by Seth Kramer.

The ensemble of performers includes Lizzie Bateson '16, Austin Begin '15, Ryan Champlin '16, Mary Corigliano '14, Christina Dunne '13, Brendan Freeman '15, Shannon Galgay '14, Maggie Greene '15, Molly Gregory '16, Julia Haltof '13, Franco Luzzi '15, Maria Mazzaro '14, Kelan McDonnell '15, Patrick Phillips '16, Kelly Pierce '14, Katie Premus '15, John Rosito '13, and Tori Schuchmann '16.

"'Director's Cut' is such a different experience," says director Ashley Ruggiero '14. "Having the opportunity to step into the role of the director is incredible, to be on the other-side of the table, and have full control over a piece of theatre that will come to life." Director Owen Corey '14 agrees. "The directing experience includes the immense responsibility and the intense pleasure in creating a work of art," he said.
