Amanda Hodgkinson, author of 22 Britannia Road , will read from her novel and speak about her work on Monday, June 4 at Fairfield University. The talk, part of the Inspired Writer Series, will begin at 7 p.m. in the Barone Campus Center Oak Room. It is free and open to the public.

It is sponsored by the MFA in Creative Writing Program in collaboration with Fairfield Public Library.

Hodgkinson is a British writer and journalist who grew up in a small Essex fishing village before moving to Suffolk and attending the University of East Anglia. She now lives in southwest France, where she completed her first novel, 22 Britannia Road. Debuting its first week on the New York Times bestseller list, the book, which details one family's struggle to create a home in the aftermath of war, earned comparisons to Sophie's Choice and Sarah's Key .

22 Britannia Road was named to Waterstones Best Debut Novels of 2011, Amazon.com's Best Books of 2011 and Oprah Winfrey's Irresistible Reads. O, The Oprah Magazine pronounced it "a riveting novel."
