New York Times best-selling author Lisa See to appear at Fairfield University


Image: Lisa See New York Times best-selling author Lisa See, author of Shanghai Girls and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan , will come to Fairfield University to promote her latest work, Dreams of Joy . Her appearance, part of the Inspired Writers Series, a program of the MFA in Creative Writing , and in collaboration with Fairfield Public Library will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, in the Barone Campus Center Oak Room.

In all her beloved books, See illuminates the potent bonds of mother love, romantic love and love of country. In Dreams of Joy (Random House, 2011) she returns to these timeless themes, continuing the story of sisters Pearl and May from Shanghai Girls .

Image: Dreams of Joy Known for her painstaking research, See is a gifted writer with a flair for the historical novel. "One of those hard-to-put-down-until-four-in-the-morning books," a Los Angeles Times reviewer wrote of her latest work. "With each new novel Lisa See gets better and better."

See was born in Paris, but grew up in Los Angeles and spent a lot of time with her father's family in Chinatown. She often draws inspiration from Chinese culture and locales. Her first book, The One Hundred Year Odyssey of My Chinese-American Family was a national bestseller and a New York Times Notable Book. Her first novel followed suit, and was also on the Los Angeles Times Best Books List for 1997. She has been nominated for an Edgar Award.
