Frank Schaeffer, New York Times best selling author, to speak at Fairfield University next week

Image: Frank Schaeffer On Wednesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m., cultural critic Frank Schaeffer, the New York Times best selling author and acclaimed writer, will deliver a lecture at Fairfield University entitled, "Eastern Orthodox Christianity: Finding Grace in a Time of Politicized Religion."

Free and open to the public, the event will take place in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room. Traditional Greek pastries will be served following the lecture.

Schaeffer has appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," and frequently appears on "The Rachel Maddow Show." He also writes for The Huffington Post.

According to Amazon.com, his three semi-biographical novels about growing up in a fundamentalist mission, "Portofino," "Zermatt," and "Saving Grandma," have a worldwide following. Best selling author Jane Smiley wrote in The Washington Post of his books "Crazy for God" and "Sex, Mom and God:" "[Schaeffer's] memoirs have a way of winning a reader's friendship ... Schaeffer is a good memoirist, smart and often laugh-out-loud funny ... Frank seems to have been born irreverent, but his memoirs have a serious purpose, and that is to expose the insanity and the corruption of what has become a powerful and frightening force in American politics."

The sponsors of the event are Fairfield's Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF is the official collegiate campus ministry program under the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas), the Center for Catholic Studies and the Office of Mission and Identity.
